WELL Building Institute™
Standard Support

The WELL Building Institute™ Standard is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and wellbeing, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind. With employee safety, health and wellbeing increasing priorities, we believe that the standard will become a key driver.

We spend over 90% of our lives in and around buildings and so the quality of these buildings has a critical social and environmental impact us. However, the concept of quality is subjective, so there is the need for transparent, objective measurement and assessment systems. Building quality is an overarching concept, which is not just about energy efficiency, environmental impact or sustainability, but also about the occupants’ wellbeing within and around the building.

The Platinum Facilities team can assess a building or offices according to the requirements of the standard, using measurable criteria:

=

AIR

Promoting clean air and reducing or minimising sources of indoor air pollution.

=

WATER

Even low levels of dehydration are detrimental to human performance. Promote safe and clean water through proper filtration.

=

NOURISHMENT

The availability of fresh, nutritious foods and encouraging healthy eating habits.

=

LIGHT

Providing illumination guidelines that minimise disruption to the body’s circadian rhythms and sleep patterns.

=

FITNESS

Provide opportunities for physical activity and exertion, such as moving away from prolonged periods of sitting at desks and taking the stairs rather than the lift.

=

COMFORT

A large area that includes thermal, acoustic, ergonomic, and olfactory comfort to optimise indoor environment, and hence wellbeing and productivity.

=

MIND

Optimising design, technology, space utilisation, noise, indoor air quality and light for the best emotional health.

We can help you benchmark your current performance and develop an approach, with timescales, to ensure that you fully adhere to the standard. We recommend a scorecard and workshop approach and you can find out more about how we can help you.
